Coral Table Legs
Coral formations are one of the structures that fascinate me; they appear in many different shapes, sizes, colour and textures yet they're all coral. A bold claim I'd like to make is, just like my work, coral formations serve as a symbol of creativity and adaptability. Their power to be extremely functional yet iconically beautiful is something I strive for.

The functionality of table legs is offering stability and holding up the tabletop, giving them the visual characteristics of coral tubes perfectly resembles my designing philosophy.

Process

In order to design these models I made wrote an algorithm in my design software. I'm able to quickly generate multiple variants of the same concept; this way I'm able to have a wide variety of designs to choose from.

To summarize my algorithm, I coded 3 sets of circles on different heights. These sets consist of an inner, middle and outer circle, the middle circle has a band relation to the 2 other circles. I can determine the band strength in my algorithm, to create my desired organic curves. These 3 curves are then lofted together to form a solid object.

Experimenting with colour flow for the red table leg
Putting the tabletop on the legs for the first time
A recycled plastic tabletop made by other students will be mounted on top of the legs. This table will be used in the cafetaria of Blokhuispoort Leeuwarden

One of the table legs took an extra try to print, so I made a side-table of the extra table leg to still give it a purpose
